Eloy Valtierra

Documentary photography artist Eloy Valtierra, academic, promoter, and photography researcher, has covered decades of news events, including the historic early 1980s Gay Pride marches in Mexico, which were not a party-heavy tourist experience like in the present. On the contrary, his assistants risked freedom, life and honor to defend the simple right to exist.

(San Luis de Abrego, Zac., 1965) He obtained a Master's Degree in Visual Arts with Honorable Mention from the Faculty of Arts and Design, UNAM. He has published since 1986 in Proceso, La Jornada, Reforma, Crónica, El Universal, El Norte, El Imparcial; as well as in Liberation from France, New York Times from the US, El País from Spain, La Vanguardia from Barcelona; among others. He has made different collective and individual exhibitions. In Spain in the Black Week of Gijón and in Amsterdam at the Museo del Pueblo, Mexiko im Umbruch, in Munich Germany, among others.

In 1997 he was awarded a scholarship in the category of young creator by FONCA, winner of the Jury Prize at the 1995 photojournalism biennial. He has been selected by the Margolis Foundation and his work has been exhibited at Latin American Art and at the Tucson Museum of Art , in 2008. He participated in the exhibition of Mexico through photography 1839-2010, at the National Museum of Art, 2013. As well as, The beauty in the conflict, at the Academy of San Carlos, FAD-UNAM.
