Pim Schalkwijk
Pim Schalkwijk, born on January 17, 1971 in Mexico City, is a photographer whose work focuses on capturing everyday life and culture, especially in Mérida, Yucatán, where he resides. A professional photographer since 1995, his images have been published in National Geographic Traveler and México Desconocido, as well as illustrating books such as "Ancient Maya Art" and "La sociedad y el tiempo Maya." He has participated in collective exhibitions such as "QF Quetzalcóatl fotografía" and "Sacbé: Camino de Intercambio."
With his U’ulab project, he used black and white analogue techniques to portray the merchants and artisans of the Lucas de Gálvez Market in Mérida in his studio within the market itself, inspired by New Objectivity, in order to preserve the human and cultural stories of the place. Schalkwijk documents how these spaces reflect social and cultural diversity, leaving a visual legacy that transcends time.
